Fort Pickett Low Impact Stream Crossing
3e Consulting was selected to provide the Virginia Army National Guard with the design and construction of a Low Impact Stream crossing at on the Fort Pickett Installation. The objective of the project was to evaluate the most appropriate best management practice (BMP) for two stream crossings located at the Virginia Department of Military Affairs Fort Pickett site.
Low Impact BMPs were required at the two stream crossings due to road-bed erosion caused by high stream flow events, and subsequent negative impacts to water quality. To mitigate the water quality impacts, the following 5 BMPs Options were considered. To evaluate the effectiveness of each of the proposed BMPs, peak discharges resulting from a 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 year storm (over a period of 24 hours) were considered. Several culvert sizes, shapes, and configurations were modeled for each site.
